You might be wondering ...

  • What is clinical supervision?

Clinical supervision is a confidential, reflexive space where you can explore your client work, professional development, and the emotional impact of your practice on you. My role is to support (and sometimes to challenge) your thinking, ethical decision-making and case management so that the welfare and safety of your clients and your wellbeing as a practitioner are at the forefront of your work.

  • If I’m seeing couples, do I really need a supervisor who is also couples trained?

It’s not compulsory, but it can help, and some organizations and professional bodies insist upon it. Couple therapy is a complex undertaking and very different from working with just one client in the room. A supervisor who is fully trained and experienced in both providing therapy to couples and supervising couple therapists is likely to bring in-depth knowledge, understanding, and experience to your supervision.

  • Who do you work with?

I work with accredited therapists, therapists working towards accreditation with a professional body, and trainee therapists.

My services are designed for professionals - not for clients seeking personal therapy.

  • Do you provide therapy or treatment?

No. My work is solely focused on supervision and consultant supervision. I do not provide therapy or treatment through this website.

  • What approach do you use in supervision?

My approach is integrative, drawing on psychodynamic, systemic, and cognitive perspectives alongside the learning from over 32 years in psychosexual and relationship therapy and clinical governance and leadership.

  • How often do supervision sessions take place?

This varies according to your professional body requirements, training standards, or organisational policies. We can discuss a schedule that supports your work while meeting the expectations of your professional body.

  • Can you help me with complex or sensitive client situations?

Yes - supervision is the appropriate place to explore challenging or emotionally demanding cases as well as discussing and celebrating what’s going well.

We can think together about clinical process, be curious together about what we don’t yet understand and consider the best way for you to create an effective therapeutical alliance with your clients based on sound professional judgment and ethical decision making.

  • Do you work with students or trainees?

Yes. Supporting trainees is an important part of my work. I offer guidance on client work, ethical practice, and meeting training requirements, always in a supportive and encouraging environment.

  • Do you offer supervision for individual work with children or young people?

No. I offer supervision of clinical work relating to individuals, couples, and multi-partnered groups who seek therapy about relational issues.

  • Do you offer supervision in person or online?

My usual delivery method is via zoom or Teams.

  • Do you offer complete confidentiality?

The usual rules apply. My work with supervisees is confidential unless I become seriously concerned about competence and/or behaviour. I would take the necessary steps to share such a concern with the most appropriate authority.

  • How do I know if supervision with you is right for me?

You don’t! But you’re welcome to get in touch so we can discuss your needs and whether I am a good fit for you at this stage in your professional journey. There is no charge for an initial discussion.

  • How much do you charge?

My fees range between £50 and £120 an hour depending on your own client fee structure, whether qualified or a student or work independently or within an organization.

  • How do I book or make an enquiry?

You can use the contact form on this website or email me directly at ammanda@ajmclinicalsupervision.co.uk
